Somatic Personal Training in Surbiton

Are you interested in mindful exercise?

Do you want to feel more embodied?

Do you want to find a personalised approach to strengthening and conditioning your body in a way that respects your mental and emotional world?

What is Somatic Personal Training?

Somatic Personal Training is my unique approach based on my own study and exploration of personal training, somatics, yoga therapy, remedial therapy, sports massage, and holistic lifestyle coaching. I bring together insights from each of these modalities in a way that helps my clients find a suitable balance between seeking challenge for growth, and facilitating rest for recovery and optimal everyday performance.

Somatics is all about embodied self-awareness, sensitising subtle sensation so as to be well calibrated with oneself. Somatic Personal Training uses this principle as a foundation no matter how much challenge we may include in your programme. This way, training will improve your posture, balance and movement efficiency, as well as your strength and conditioning — and never at the expense of your overall wellbeing, health and longevity.

Who is Somatic Personal Training for?

  • Anyone looking for personal training for mental health & high performance

  • Anyone coming back from injury and wants to find a trainer that can incorporate rehab

  • Anyone looking to optimise posture and movement for wellbeing and longevity

  • Anyone who wants a holistic programme for general high performance, which also teaches you nervous system regulation

This form of training is not suitable for anyone prioritising aesthetic goals, as my approach is primarily based on self-development, wellbeing, performance and longevity.

Personal Training for Mental Health

It’s now widely known that exercise is extremely beneficial for mental health. However, how you approach exercise can either help or hinder your mental wellness and self-development.

Somatic Personal Training has been developed with mental health in mind. We’ll use somatics as a foundation for further growth and development, which means emphasising becoming well attuned to sensations in your body, your body in space, and the most mechanically efficient ways to move. These skills not only improve your movement, but also help you become more present and self-aware — crucial components of good mental health.

We’ll work on things like connecting to your core, which also has the dual benefit of improving physical and psycho-emotional stability.

In session

Depending on the individual, sessions may include a variety of training modalities, including developing foundational biomechanics all the way to maximising strength & conditioning. For example:

  • Primal movement patterns + balance

  • Strength training + core development

  • Yoga + Mobility

  • Myofascial release

  • Postural + gait therapy

  • Recovery practices (restorative + breathwork)

What’s included?

Between sessions

Everyone’s programme will be different, but if you’re open to programming outside of our sessions, you’ll get a tailored plan plus any relevant video tutorials or audio recordings.

I like to be in contact with my clients, so you’ll be able to WhatsApp me between sessions with any real-time questions, or sharing videos for form feedback.

What if you want some Yoga or Somatic Coaching sessions?

As an interdisciplinary practitioner, I design holistic programmes that may include yoga, meditation, and psych-emotional coaching. These elements may be built in from the outset, or we may make space for these practices depending on what’s arising in your life.

Plans for 1-to-1 Yoga or Somatic Coaching are the same, so there’s no need to purchase separate sessions. Please refer to these pages if you’d like to learn more about these complementary modalities.

First, we’ll have a consultation to see where you currently are and what your intentions for training might be. Specific goals may be part of this discussion, but I like to keep goals fluid to allow your process to evolve and adapt to your life.

Next, we’ll decide on location or whether we’ll do online sessions. I am available for in-person personal training in Surbiton, including home visits in the local area.

Then we’ll find a day, time and frequency that works for you.

Sessions can be purchased on a drop-in basis, or as a pack of 6 if you want to take advantage of a discount.

What my clients say:

“Eleanor came into my life at the beginning of 2018, and I’m not exaggerating at all by saying that she has transformed me physically, emotionally and mentally too. I believe the 3 elements are very much connected and I was so happy to find this same belief in Eleanor. She is a very patient, warm and compassionate person, and these qualities in her come through in her yoga and personal training sessions. She believes in your ability and transfers this belief to you, which gives you the motivation to work harder and achieve better results. She works you hard, but at a pace and level that is challenging yet still comfortable and most importantly enjoyable . I have never left a training session with her without out a smile on my face and an immense sense of achievement and satisfaction. She has a very wise head on a young body which is very inspiring. I look forward to my daily training sessions with Eleanor and I would highly recommend her.”
