Strength in Body, Strength in Spirit

Have you felt that primal desire to feel strong, agile and skilful in your body?

It comes from somewhere deep within our humanness, and though everyone wants to feel generally able-bodied, there’s a certain breed of us that hungers for physical prowess. We were the warriors back in the day ;)

But issues can arise on this journey. All too often, our egos skew our truest intentions, and we train for validation or vanity. Or some of us are just ticking a box but don’t actually feel alive and thriving in the activity we’ve chosen.

When it comes to physical development, I always bring it back to how it affects our experience of life. Bringing awareness, freedom, control and strength into the body brings these same qualities into the mind.

When we are mobile and agile, we are reminded of our innate inner freedom — no matter what’s happening in our lives.

When we are acutely aware of our physical sensations, we can be more aware of our emotions, thoughts and feelings — experiences that guide our intuition.

When we know the felt sense of strength and power, we are reminded of our inner strength and unshakeable power — even when external circumstances threaten to defeat us.

This is why I teach Mindful Strength. I teach my students awareness of their anatomy, ease of movement, stability from the inside out, and the importance of nervous system recovery.

To introduce more students to this method, I’m soon running two Mindful Strength workshops in Surbiton. We’ll explore how to mindfully approach the 6 main primal movement patterns: hip hinging, squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling and twisting. The intention is to give students an introduction to these fundamental human movements so you can begin to build strength and power for optimal health and longevity — as well as self-awareness and empowerment.

These sessions will provide you with a foundation of awareness, biomechanics, mobility, positioning and recovery, which you can then take into your strength training, or use as stand-alone pre-habilitation or rehabilitation.

The workshops will be hosted at Alcheme Wellbeing in Surbiton on the following dates:

  • Lower Body Primal Movement Patterns (Sat 20th Nov, 2:30-4pm)

  • Upper Body Primal Movement Patterns (Sat 4th Dec, 2:30-4pm)
